Groupon (NASDAQ: GRPN  ) shares are plunging in after-hours trading, following the release of the online deal provider'sfourth-quarter results.

In the holiday quarter, Groupon saw sales jump 20% year over year to land at $768 million. Non-generally accepted accounting principles earnings stopped at $0.04 per share, up from $0.03 per share a year ago. Analysts were looking for about $0.02 of earnings per share on $718 million in sales.

So the company easily exceeded expectations in the fourth quarter, boosted by strong consumer engagement with Groupon deals over the holiday season. But shares are down 10.3% at press time, because the forward guidance was far less rosy.

In the first quarter, Groupon expects a pair of recent acquisitions to add $50 million to revenue while hampering EBITDA profit by $20 million. Given these puts and takes, revenue guidance for the upcoming period centers around $735 million while the earnings estimate ranges from a $0.02 loss per share to a $0.06 profit per share.

One diversified machinery player that insiders are snapping up a decent amount of stock in here is Generac (GNRC), which designs, manufactures, and markets power generation equipment and other engine powered products for the residential, light commercial, industrial, and construction markets in the U.S., Canada, and internationally. Insiders are buying this stock into weakness, since shares have dropped notably by 22% so far in 2014.

Generac has a market cap of $3 billion and an enterprise value of $3.8 billion. This stock trades at a fair valuation, with a trailing price-to-earnings of 17.6 and a forward price-to-earnings of 12.7. Its estimated growth rate for this year is -27%, and for next year it's pegged at 8.9%. This is not a cash-rich company, since the total cash position on its balance sheet is $173.16 million and its total debt is $1.11 billion.

A director just bought 25,000 shares, or about $1.05 million worth of stock, at $42.17 per share.

From a technical perspective, GNRC is currently trending above its 50-day moving average and below its 200-day moving average, which is neutral trendwise. This stock recently formed a triple bottom chart pattern at $39.08, $38.75 and $38.64 a share. Following that bottom, shares of GNRC have started to rebound sharply higher as the stock has pushed back above its 50-day moving average of $42.41 a share. That move has now pushed shares of GNRC within range of triggering a near-term breakout trade.

If you're bullish on GNRC, then I would look for long-biased trades as long as this stock is trending above its 50-day at $42.41 a share or above more near-term support at $40 a share and then once it breaks out above some near-term overhead resistance levels at $45 to $45.72 a share with high volume. Look for a sustained move or close above those levels with volume that registers near or above its three-month average action of 1.17 million shares. If that breakout kicks off soon, then GNRC wi

Alamy You can never know in advance all the news that will move the market in a given week, but some things you can see coming. From food giants to tech bellwethers, here are some of the things that will help shape the week that lies ahead on Wall Street. Monday -- Organic Growth: The market for organic foods has never been hotter, and Annie's (BNNY) is there to cash in on consumers craving more natural edibles. It makes organic pastas, crackers, frozen pizzas, and other food products. Annie's reports after the market closes on Monday. It should be another quarter of healthy growth. Analysts see revenue and earnings growing by roughly 20 percent for the quarter that ended in December. The one thing that investors will need to watch out for is that Annie's has missed Wall Street's profit targets in the previous two quarters. Tuesday -- In Control: One of last month's big winners was Control4 (CTRL). Shares of the home automation specialist soared 29 percent in January, bucking the market, which took a bit of a tumble. And you don't have to look too hard to spot the catalyst behind its rally. Google's (GOOG) acquisition of smart thermostat maker Nest drew attention to Control4 as another play on automated home technology. The thinking here is that if Google is buying into the niche of Web-fueled home automation, other dot-com giants may consider acquiring Control4 to establish a presence in this new battlefield. Control4 reports on Tuesday. It's unlikely to admit that it's receiving buyout interest on the heels of Google's move, but you know it's going to be asked. Wednesday -- The Cisco kid: It may seem hard to believe, but there was a time when Cisco (CSCO) was this country's most valuable company. Just before the dot-com bubble popped, the leading provider of routers, switches, and other networking gear commanded the market's largest market cap. Then again, at the time we thought that anything Web-related was worth a whole lot of money, and Cisco was the co

Alamy Fried chicken and waffles is a staple menu item at countless soul food and comfort food restaurants, but that's not stopping Burger King (BKW) from trying to give the meal a fast-food spin. Burger King is testing a new sandwich in the Northeast that takes the breaded chicken patty used in its Classic Crispy Chicken Sandwich from its King Deals Value Menu and replaces the bun with a split waffle. Burger King's Chicken & Waffle Sandwich isn't as hearty as the meal that it's based on. It's selling for as little as $2.29. But the chain's latest attempt to turn heads with a unique menu item will at least attract curious nibblers if it does decide to broaden the offering across the country. Waffling About Burger King isn't the first popular chain to attempt to reinvent this classic dish. As Nation's Restaurant News points out, last summer, Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen (PLKI) offered Chicken Waffle Tenders -- consisting of chicken tenders dipped in a vanilla maple-scented waffle batter, served with a honey maple dipping sauce. DineEquity's (DIN) IHOP did it three years ago by combining its chicken strips with Belgian waffle quarters. Yum! Brands (YUM) tried to breathe new life into its breakfast business last summer by testing a Waffle Taco -- an egg, sausage, and waffle breakfast sandwich. Even if it doesn't succeed -- and some of the early taste tests haven't been very flattering to the chain's new sandwich -- it's at least comforting to see that Burger King isn't just copying McDonald's (MCD) the way that it has for the past couple of years. Burger King followed McDonald's in offering fancy coffee drinks, fresh fruit smoothies, and popcorn chicken. It has gone on to roll out doppelgangers of the Egg McMuffin and McRib sandwiches. In November, it introduced the Big King, which any patron will quickly recognize as a body double to the Big Mac. Then again, it's not as if following McDonald's lead is such a clever idea right now. Over the last three years, the company has returned to $16.5 billion to shareholders through dividends and share repurchases, not bad for a stock with a market cap just under $100 billion. Nomura Securities analysts initiated coverage on Symantec Corporation (SYMC) early on Wednesday, giving the stock a “Neutral” rating because its upside is already priced into its current valuation.

The analysts see shares of SYMC reaching $29, which suggests a 14.6% upside to the stock’s Tuesday closing price of $25.30.

Nomura Securities analyst Frederick Grieb commented, “In the early innings of a classic turnaround story, but upside largely priced In. We initiate coverage of Symantec (SYMC) with a Neutral rating and a 12-month target price of $29. Symantec is a leading vender in the security and storage markets, but has struggled to grow market share post its 2005 acquisition of VERITAS. The company has faced competitive pressures in its core markets, with ‘freemium’ antivirus software pressuring the consumer business, while the storage business has been challenged by enterprise migration to Windows and Linux from Solaris and UNIX. Despite these headwinds, we are launching coverage of Symantec with a Neutral rating, as we believe management will be able to improve the business by increasing margins (perhaps to +33%) and longer-term organic growth through a combination of simplifying management structures and a better strategy to incentivize the sales force. However, given the stock 33% increase YTD, due in part to multiple expansion (P/E up 18% YTD), we believe much of the upside from this turnaround is already baked in. FY14E EPS starts at $1.2; FY15E EPS starts at $2.18.”

Symantec Corp shares were inactive during pre-market trading on Wednesday. The stock is up 34.43% year-to-date.

$900 million UBS breakaway team forms new firm, joins Dynasty

A team of five UBS AG advisers said Tuesday that they have left the wirehouse brokerage firm to form an independent investment advisory firm, Fusion Family Wealth, and have joined Dynasty Financial Partners' platform of wealth management services and technology.

Led by firm founder Jonathan Blau, a former UBS senior vice president, Fusion's team members started their new firm over the Veterans Day holiday after exiting UBS last week.

The $900 million wealth management team has already spoken to many clients, and they are “favorably inclined” toward moving to the new firm from UBS, Mr. Blau said.

He declined, however, to characterize Fusion's team as breakaway brokers.

“I like to consider myself an independent registered investment adviser,” Mr. Blau said.

“I wasn't running from something,” he said. “I was running to something.”

With offices in both New York and on Long Island, Fusion Family Wealth comprises Mr. Blau, along with managing director Harvey Radler, senior wealth advisers Jeffrey Blick and Joel Bodner, and senior client service specialist James Cloudman. All are joining from UBS.

Fusion's professionals want to offer a high legal and fiduciary standard, which is why they were attracted to Dynasty's open-architecture platform, he said.

The partnership lets Fusion work with large accounting and law firms and thus handle a wide range of client needs using Dynasty's customized platform. The platform includes proprietary research from Callan Associates and Wilshire Associates as well as Envestnet's portfolio tools and reporting technology.

Fidelity Institutional Wealth Services will provide clearing and custody services.

In starting up Fusion, Mr. Blau looks forward to using behavioral finance when working with clients.

Research shows that emotion and psychology adversely influence investor's financial decisions, he said, pointing to such maxims as “sell in May and go away,” which can prevent clients from achieving their goals.

Investors wait for Fed, Apple and Facebook

S&P 500 weekly chart

The S&P ended the week on a record high. Click chart for more markets data.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) Traders will have their eyes on Washington this week -- but not because of a shutdown or debt standoff. They'll be looking to the Federal Reserve.

The Fed's policy committee wraps up a two-day meeting on Wednesday. It is highly unlikely to dial back its $85 billion monthly stimulus program that has helped to send stocks soaring this year.

Many investors had expected the Fed to announce it would cut back, or taper, its purchases of bonds and mortgage-backed securities at its meeting last month. But the Fed held off on doing so, saying it wanted more evidence of economic growth.

This month's government shutdown may further muddle the economic picture. So when will the Fed finally start to taper? It's possible Chairman Ben Bernanke, who will be stepping down after his term expires early next year, will leave that decision to his successor. Fed vice chair Janet Yellen has been nominated by President Obama to replace Bernanke. She still needs to be approved by the Senate.

Investors will also be watching earnings this coming week. Results from many big companies that reported last week were mixed. But they were good enough to help lift the Dow, S&P 500 and Nasdaq to weekly gains. The S&P 500 ended the week at a record high.

Yearning for more earnings: Apple (AAPL, Fortune 500) reports its earnings after the closing bell Monday and it could be another weak quarter for the tech giant.

Analysts are expecting profits to fall from a year ago while sales are only expected to rise slightly. The report could shine some light about how the latest iPhones -- the 5S and less expensive 5C -- have sold since their debut last month. Investor Carl Icahn has urged the company to pour its cash into a larger share buyback than the company has planned in order to boost the stock price.

Nokia (NOK), an Apple competitor which recently announced new phones and tablets of its own, reports earnings on Tuesday. Nokia is also in the process of selling its mobile device business to Microsoft (MSFT, Fortune 500).

Herbalife (HLF), the controversial nutritional supplement company that hedge fund manager Bill Ackman is betting against, reports results on Monday. Icahn, who has engaged in a nasty public feud with Ackman, is Herbalife's largest shareholder.

Social media firms LinkedIn (LNKD)! and Facebook (FB, Fortune 500) will report earnings this week as well. Investors will be hoping to see more evidence of mobile growth from Facebook -- especially since Twitter, which is expected to make its market debut in the next few weeks, has disclosed that it is performing extremely well in mobile.

General Motors (GM, Fortune 500) will report earnings on Wednesday. Expectations are high for GM after Big Three rival Ford (F, Fortune 500) reported solid earnings last week.

Starbucks (SBUX, Fortune 500) reports earnings on Thursday. The coffee seller's stock is trading near an all-time high and CEO Howard Schultz has been in the news often due to his views about the dysfunction in Washington.

Sprint (S, Fortune 500) and Exxon Mobil (XOM, Fortune 500) will also be releasing results this week.

No "Jobs Friday" this week: The October jobs report originally scheduled for Friday will come out a week late due to the government shutdown.

But investors will still get a glimpse of what jobs growth was like in October. Payroll processor ADP (ADP, Fortune 500) will release its monthly report on hiring in the private sector. Economists surveyed by Briefing.com expect that 125,000 jobs were added in October, down from 166,000 in September. To top of page

  • [By Saibus Research]

Consolidation has been incremental in the paper and forest products industry. In May 2012, Resolute Forest Products (RFP) (formerly AbitibiBowater) announced that it had acquired 50.1% of Fibrek and acquired the remaining 49.9% in August. 2011 saw International Paper (IP) announce a hostile takeover of Temple-Inland and after offering $32/share in cash as well as the assumption of $600M of TIN's debt, IP was able to close the deal in February 2012. 2011 also saw Rock-Tenn (RKT) acquire Smurfit-Stone to create the number two player in the linerboard segment with 20% market share, trailing only International Paper's 40%. We see these moves as a prudent step to consolidation in the industry as certain types of paper such as newsprint and uncoated free sheet (office paper) are seeing falling demand due to increased use of digital resources.

Increase in prices was necessary for the food retailer since cost inflation had been hurting its bottom line and rivals such as General Mills (GIS) had already started reaping the benefits of higher prices. There are other reasons also which have benefited General Millsvolumes. Its entry into the yogurt business has been a commendable one. General Millsintroduction of a wide variety of yogurt flavors has more than helped the company to attract customers in hordes.

Getty Images About 20 years ago, a company now owned by Monsanto (MON) introduced the Flavr Savr tomato -- the first genetically modified organism approved for consumption in the United States. Since then, farmers across the country have been using more and more GMOs every year. It's a practice that has come under increasingly intense scrutiny. Activists who are worried about the potential for human health problems, as well as environmental damage, have started demanding that food containing GMOs be labeled as such. Prop 37, a California ballot measure to mandate GMO labeling, failed at the polls in 2012, and a similar measure lost last month in Washington state. In both campaigns, the largest makers of GMOs -- Monsanto, DuPont (DD), and Dow Chemical (DOW) -- provided the ad funding that helped turn the tide. But what many people don't realize is that they've been consuming products with GMO ingredients for years. The Institute for Responsible Technology has a brochure breaking down GMO presence in many different types of foods. Here are 10 of the most popular foods that likely contain GMOs. Pre-made soups can contain a large number of ingredients containing GMOs. For instance, Campbell's (CPB) popular condensed Tomato Soup lists high fructose corn syrup as its second biggest ingredient. According to the Non-GMO Project, nearly 88 percent of all corn planted in the United States is GMO.

Andrew Harrer/Bloomberg via Getty Images CAMDEN, N.J. -- Campbell Soup reported that its second-quarter profit and revenue came in above Wall Street expectations Friday, helped by the later Thanksgiving. The company said sales for its U.S. Simple Meals division rose 7 percent, lifted by higher volumes and prices and the acquisition of Plum Organics. U.S. soup sales rose 5 percent, in part because a later Thanksgiving pushed shipments to retailers back into the quarter. For the first half of the year, soup sales are still down 1 percent. Campbell Soup Co. (CPB), based in Camden, N.J., is working to find ways to boost sales of its canned soups. The company is contending with the wide availability of fresh soup in the hot food bars of supermarkets. It's also trying to update the image of its soups, and has introduced new packaging and flavors designed to appeal to a younger crowd. For the period ended Jan. 26, Campbell earned $325 million, or $1.03 a share. That compares with $190 million, or 60 cents a share, a year ago. Not including discontinued operations of its recently sold European business, Campbell said adjusted earnings were 76 cents a share, above the 73 cents a share Wall Street expected. Revenue rose to $2.28 billion, also above the $2.27 billion analysts expected, according to FactSet. The company stood by its 2014 outlook for core sales to grow by 4 percent to 5 percent and earnings a share to grow by 2 percent to 4 percent, or $2.53 to $2.58 a share. Campbell's shares rose $1.38, or 3.3 percent, to $42.35 in premarket trading. Pre-made soups can contain a large number of ingredients containing GMOs. No matter how much information we have, people will always need to eat. One way to look at if an industry has managed to grow over decades is to see how many Dividend Aristocrats the industry claims. Dividend Aristocrats are businesses that have increased their dividend payments for 25 or more consecutive years, and meet certain size and liquidity requirements. These are businesses that have withstood all of the changes of the last 25 or more years, and managed to grow consistently and profitably. There are 54 Dividend Aristocrats. The list below shows the Dividend Aristocrats whose primary business relates to food and/or beverages:

McDonald (MCD) Coca-Cola (KO) PepsiCo (PEP) McCormick & Co. (MKC) Archer-Daniels-Midland (ADM) Hormel Foods (HRL) Brown-Forman (BF.B) Sysco (SYY)

Of the 54 Dividend Aristocrats, eight (~15%) make their money from food and/or beverages.
